Why is one side of this losing leaves and other side is ok!

This is a clematis. A couple months ago the left branch grew very fast and spread by a whole meter above the picture, but the right one did not grow much. Now, the leaves on the left branch are all blackened and look dead – while the one on the right is somehow better.

It’s been receiving good sun, water, no idea what could be.
