What’s eating my bark?

Hi everyone, does anyone have any idea what eats citrus bark like this? I have some citrus gall going on which normally just leaves a few exit holes here and there but this is different.

Will the tree be ok, or do I need to cut off the affected sections? It is quite widespread.
