What would you do…?

I’m sick and tired of the white stones the previous owner put down under the trees but if I remove them I doubt I’ll be able to plant anything due to the roots of the trees. Any suggestions on what I could do with this space under the trees? Raised bed with sleepers perhaps? Kiddo lives football so whatever goes there would have to be quite hardy!
