What are these different patches of grass? And how do I control it?

We had a complete garden makeover last year. Need grass was laid as the place was essentially a building site for 6 months. Ive noticed these random patches of grass grow longer and wilder than the rest of the garden. More and more patches are appearing after each cut. Any ideas on how I can get ontop of this? Thanks
