Weird seedling

My father inlaw had a bag of seeds. They were black with a propeller type attachment like sycamore but thinner and more papery. Some germinated and they have these weird leafes. Around 7 thin leafs still connected to the seed. This one is white because I tried removing it but only the outer skin came off. Anyone know what it is?
