Tree Aloe Medusa – pruning + get more upright – Reddit Post
I’ve searched everywhere for tips on my beautiful Medusa tree aloe it is lovely but getting quite large. Two problems I’m trying to solve:
I’d like to thin it out just a bit. There are some branches (?) that seem almost like runners (they remind me of runners in my indeterminate tomato plants) and I’d like to chop them off. I assume I’m fine to do that…Right?
More importantly, the shape. It will be beautiful in 5 to 10 years when it is high above our heads, but the front and one side are starting to angle out quite low, headed straight towards blocking the path on both sides. Could I use a winch or some thing to train these branches more upward? Or should I just chop them as well?
Of course, I took a poor photo and you can’t see the “runners” or tell how outward it is starting to grow. Just to the left of this photo is the walkway to our front door and you can tell those branches on the left are going straight for them.
I could also stand to prune a bunch of the lower leaves to make it less bushy, I will probably do that when I am using tension to train upwards if that method will work.
