This might be a stupid question about growing grass

In an attempt to save money, we thought we’d try to plant our grass (kikuyu). New house, busy lifestyle, and summer meant it didn’t take long for us to miss watering it and we gave up on it growing 😂

If we end up buying instant turf but go with buffalo, will we end up with kikuyu growing through or are those seeds as good as dead?
