Start again or is there any hope?

Backyard bliss Lilly Pilly planted in Perth about a year ago. I’m after a bushy hedge to cover this fence. I made the mistake of not trimming regularly so the plants just grew upwards (lesson learnt). Any suggestions on how to promote the lateral growth or are they too far gone and need replacing?
