So we adopted a monster! Best option for new lawn?

17 months ago we decided to adopt a labrador and predictively this has caused a complete meltdown of our backyard. Our little monster has done the works, digging holes, flipping pot plants and removing the plant/soil so he can chew the pot, pulling up plants to eat, removing and eating the drip irrigation system and has turned our lawn into a dirt racing track. We got to the point where we just gave up on the backyard completely and decided once he calmed down we would just redo the backyard completely (as the current one is full of Yakkas and palms which we’re not a fan of). We also had an issue with him getting overexcited when we tried to water the garden making it extremely different to care for.

Now that our puppy is starting to calm down and has given up (some) of his bad habits we are looking to start fresh and first things first we wanted to address the dirt/mud path. Does anyone have any suggestions for types of lawn/ground cover that can better stand up to a fairly active dog? Do we just reseed with grass? Something artificial? Pull it all up and start anew? Our puppy is quite high energy and him running in the backyard is just something that I expect he will continue to do for the next few years until he starts to calm down as he gets older. We don’t expect a perfect lawn or anything like that, but we’re looking for something that will get rid of most of the dirt as it gets everywhere. We are in Melbourne.

Before anyone asks I promise you we walk him twice a day, he is just an extremely high energy. spoiled boy!
