So pokeweed can lift cardboard, BTW for those of you who didn’t know… – Reddit Post

New to gardening. De-weeded an area overgrown with pokeweed to add roses and hydrangeas. After pulling as much of the root as I could, I tilled the soil, mixed some garden soil, planted my plants, laid cardboard around different spots (didn’t have enough for the entire area) and laid about 3″ of mulch on top. Imagine my surprise 2-weeks later when I see exposed cardboard. All the mulch slid off and piled up around the cardboard.🙃
