Recommendations for small trees or shrubs to shade a west facing window? (Brisbane)

Our home office has a west facing window that gets blasted with afternoon sun. Looking for small tree or shrub recommendations to provide shade. Something that can be safely planted close to the house and can survive the sun. Prefer not to have a full screening hedge though as still want some natural light to come through. Thanks!
