Received a peony root with rot – Do you think there’s still hope for this one if I can’t get a replacement? – Reddit Post
I ordered a Shirley Temple peony root from dutchgrown.com and it arrived with sprouts broken off and a significant section of squishy, black rot. I’ve included a photo of what it looked like after trimming off as much as I could. I’ve never done this so it felt like I was ruining it lol. I didn’t need to cut off any eyes, there’s still 7 I believe!
I requested a replacement but their website says to send it back in it’s original condition (I didn’t read that until after). Since there’s a chance I won’t get a replacement, I am wondering if I should still plant this root tomorrow once the cuts are callused? How likely is it that it will survive, or even bloom? Does it look like I cut enough off?
I would appreciate any advice- I have no idea what I’m doing! ♡
