New to pond

I’ve just moved house and inherited this pond. It used to have fish but the previous owners took them with them. Apparently it has frogs and newts in still. I would love to keep it going and bring more life to it. Any ideas on:

1) general maintenance and upkeep 2) what fish or things to change (I’d like to track my daughter about the outdoor at some point, she’s 2). 3) child safety ideas that don’t ruin it
