Native alternative to awful “leightons green”
These are Callitris meulleri, a less commonly grown native but excellent alternative for Cuprocyparris x leylandii “Leightons Green” which are grossly overused, especially as small hedges.
The Callitris will typically grow 3-4m in cultivation x up to 2m wide. They hedge up a treat and are much easier to keep under control than leightons green which want to grow to >10m x5m.
Plants in photo were installed from tubestock (aprox size shown) last october and are already nearly 2/3 the height of a colourbond fence. Soil is good and they have been watered but they will also grow in harsh conditions. They have been lightly pruned once.
