Meadow building – Reddit Post

Looking for some advice to help my parents with a meadow they’ve been working on. They are older and it gets harder and harder every year for them to maintain the once large vegetable garden they had so we’ve been transitioning it to a flower garden, although with weeding it feels like as much work. My mom was hoping to start a wildflower garden, but after a few years the results are still not what she wants. We also just don’t know what to do as the season winds down.

A few years ago we tilled the garden and threw down a general wild flower mix. First year was really nice. We mowed it down early this spring and the blue flowers are the only ones that really came back.

She went ahead and bought some more wildflower mix from American Meadows, but I’m wondering when/how we should seed it. Do we mow and sow now? Or wait til late winter? They are in Kansas 6b.
