London garden for dummies?
Hi!! I’ve just moved to London from Australia and we have a little south facing ‘garden’ that needs heaps of TLC, with empty spaces I’d like to fill with flowers in spring and summer. But I’ve never grown flowers before, I’ve only ever had a south facing balcony (received very little sun in southern hemisphere) and stuck to easy to grow herbs etc. Plus the sub-tropical climate was completely different so I essentially know nothing about what can grow here.
I love tulips and daffodils so I thought I could plant a bunch of bulbs directly into the soil this month, doing a couple of layers of bulbs.
I also love the look of wildflower patches, but from what I’m reading it might now be a bit late, and better to sow in spring?
I guess my question is, is it indeed too late to plant wildflower seeds, and if not, can I scatter the seeds around the bulbs? If it is too late, do you have any recommendations for pretty, ‘fairy garden’ type flowers that I can plant alongside the tulips/daffys that will bloom around the same time or a bit later?
Also – any other rental friendly, easy maintenance plants I can pop in at this time to make it look nicer??
Also! Lots of plants need ‘plenty of sun’ – I’m confused about this, as from my understanding the UK does in general not get plenty of sun?? Does this mean more like, try to avoid absolutely any shade?
Thank you 🌱🌷🪻🌸
