Japanese Maple from cuttings? – Reddit Post

I’ve been researching that says this is sometimes difficult and should be done in spring early summer. I have a family friend in NC who lost their home from hurricane Helene. Her maple tree still stands but isnt very leafy or happy looking after everything. She was telling me how special the tree was while we were helping get her moved out of her home. I was wondering if it was worth the effort of going back and getting cuttings to try to get at least one growing for her new home when she gets moved in and settled down. She is very knowledgable about plants and trees, but right now she has too much on her mind to even consider it. It is now or never, the property is already closed on and when she officially leaves, she gone and everything is likely to be bulldozed. I will probably give it a try anyways but how likely am I to have luck with a fall cutting and is there anything special I need to know. Plan to use a rooting hormone and potting soil. I have only ever grown cuttings from very easy trees and plants, but people seem to say Japanese Maples are more difficult.
