Japanese Maple Crawler?

Hi fellow gardeners! , so I’ve found these beautiful looking creepers around the side of my house maybe a 4 days ago.

I’ve taken some clippings from this plant, as close to the root, if not at the root itself and transplanted them into some very light and airy soil to hopefully grow along a kind of pergola / sun shade structure just outside my bedroom.

Unfortunately, after two good soaks and a couple of recovery days, I’m pretty sure, unfortunately I think I killed them from shock, they are dead droopy and have dry / crunchy ends.

No more is growing at the side of my house anymore but my question is, is this some type Japanese maple creeper? If not could someone help ID this for me plz

Even with how they’re looking and how dry they are now, is there any chance at all they could come back? Or should I pop into Bunnings and see if they have any seeds / sproutlings and start again?
