Is this clumping bamboo and should I remove it from my garden?
Hi, would really appreciate some advice please!
Moved in to our house a few months ago and there is bamboo growing among the bushes in the garden. There looks to be 3 big discrete clumps of it, each with a handful of extra shoots growing up to 30cm away from the clump. The first clump is around half a metre from the edge of the stone wall and similar distance to the neighbour’s fence to the side. The other clumps are probably under a metre from the fence at the back of the bushes.
They are definitely out of hand with vertical growth and need some maintenance. But my question is – am I right in thinking this is clumping bamboo rather than running? And therefore is it safe for me to simply prune it to keep its height under control, rather than removing from the roots?
