Is my shrub burnt?

A neighbour gave me this little shrub in October before they moved house out of the area, it’s been happily sitting in its pot since then. Last week I noticed it looking like this, it looks crispy and burnt – could it be from the sun?

Is anyone able to identify the plant and help me to figure out what’s happened and how to rescue it? I don’t have the neighbours number sadly and any identifier apps I’ve tried are giving me multiple suggestions, possibly thrown off by the crispy leaves.

Any help anyone can give would be hugely appreciated, I’d hate to lose the little champ!
