Ideas for garden (VIC)

Looking for ideas to fill in this space. Currently filled with succulents, but want to do something different as I’m not a fan of them.

It’s a really annoying size space but we want to put something in there to stop our dog digging occasionally.

This area gets sunlight most of the day, so would need something that can tolerate the sun. We don’t want to put rocks/pebbles in either as we’ve had that before in a house.
