How to contain this grass?

Hi all, I inherited this grass (New Zealand flax?) with the house. It’s absolutely exploded in size over the last few months and while I’m very happy to keep it I just need it to be a bit… less.

Any tips for reducing its size? Can I simply give it a haircut with some shears? Thanks.
