Free time, rocks, sticks, and no experience at all – Reddit Post

Sorry if my English is pretty bad.

So, my grandfather owns a lot that he’s filled with a lot of plants, trees, pots and his perfect lawn.

I’m his helper on Saturdays, and couldn’t help but notice an empty space with the most hard soil I’ve ever seen. Not only that, but it also had huge rocks buried in it, and was so inclined that water would literally make a current on rainy days.

Since that spot was abandoned after all, I asked for my grandpa’s permission to take care of it on my free times after doing my chores.

I made an improvised drain using rocks to prevent water from destroying everything, which worked perfectly. Then I used sticks and hard branches to make an improvised fence to raise the terrain. How? using things like wood chips, dry pine needles and mango leaves, mowed grass and dirt. Now the soil is getting softer, the ground level is higher, and there are worms in it.

I don’t have pictures from last week, but the plants I planted on the finished bed are thriving on a soil that practically didn’t exist before.

The last picture shows the process of “making” the new soil. It’s still a WIP, but I wanna keep expanding my little spot.
