Frangipani fell over, what can I replace it with?

I was discussing whether or not to remove a pink Frangipani tree that was getting quite tall and too big for the garden, very close to the house.

I think it heard me and took matters into its own hands because I woke up the next day to find it had split down the middle of the trunk, with most of the tree now lying on the lawn. It squashed a Lillypilly, but that now seems okay and surprisingly still upright after I pried it out from under all the fallen branches.

It provided a lovely shadey nook in our small garden, for the part of the year when it had leaves. I’m not sad to see it go because I like low maintenance gardening, and hated when it dropped leaves everywhere.

I’d like to replace it with something low maintenance that won’t grow too big, but will still provide some dappled shade. I prefer natives and plants that will attract birds/wildlife, or produces something edible too.

Any ideas?

(Also any ideas to dispose of the Frangipani, I’ve found it doesn’t mulch very well as it’s filled with so much sticky white irritating sap. I’ve also planted a few cuttings for fun.)
