Ever feel you’ve bitten off more than you can chew?
I moved into a new house at the weekend – a lovely little place in a quiet village, overlooking the cricket club and right by my daughter’s school. While I’ve had bigger houses before, this has by far the largest and most established garden I’ve ever had to deal with, around 130-140ft long, north facing.
It’s split into 3 defined sections, plus a side courtyard. It has multiple fruit trees, a pond, sheds, summer houses, a greenhouse and even a small veg patch at the back. Only problem is the house has been empty for a few months now and is quite overgrown.
The garden was always a bit of a selling point and I can’t wait to enjoy it next summer, but until then I think I’ve severely underestimated just how much work it’ll take! I’m going to tackle the grass this weekend, but after that, where to even begin?! I’m thinking of identifying and pulling all of the weeds out before attempting to trim back anything that’s supposed to be there.
Got any tips to make it more manageable?? Break it into chunks? Hedges first? Dig it all up and replace with astroturf??
