Dwarf cherry. High graft.
I have bought a bareroot dwarf cherry tree online and it’s arrived with what looks like the graft right at the top of the trunk. None of my other trees were like this, the graft was somewhere towards the bottom.
I was hoping to to follow the “grow a little fruit tree” method but am unable now to make the dramatic heading cut on planting in order to keep the tree small.
I’ve contacted the nursery and they told me a graft this high is normal. I’ve never seen this before and I have a few fruit trees. I wonder if he is fobbing me off. I’ve googled and it says a high graft can cause instability in a tree. Any ideas why they would have done this? I don’t think I can use the tree now.
Many thanks
