Does anyone know why my fruit trees have a lot of bend? – Reddit Post
I just bought a house 3 months ago and inherited some citurs and stone fruit trees. I just noticed most of them have a lot of bend in the same direction. The fruit on them before I pruned back were not nice and they need TLC. Can this bend indicate inadequate sun exposure? If so will this affect the fruit quality for next season? This is an open space with a lot of sun exposure , so I don’t understand the cause of the bend.
I haven’t tried the stone fruit yet, as these two plants just finished flowering, and I don’t know what type of fruit they are yet. But the Mandarin, orange and lemon tree all had bad fruit, too sour and seemed not properly developed, with the lemon tree not fruiting well. Oranges were a decent size, but didn’t taste nice. This spot start’s getting full sun around 10am until 7pm spring, and will be 9pm in summer.
I’m in Victoria, Australia for reference, so we are in spring right now. I also don’t know the history of the property, as a few investors has it before me, but there was a lot of overgrowth at one point, that have since been cleared. Any info would be appreciated, I plan to create a food forest of sorts.
