Did I plant out 🥒 too early? I now really hate the Scottish weather!
Good afternoon all,
After noticing that the root balls were really overgrowing my last set of pots I decided to plant out my 4 cucumber plants that were growing strong (mostly inside) but with some proper hardening off (they spent two chill nights outside) before being planted out into their final spot.
I choose a day of some rain and not a lot of sun which i believe is a good thing for the roots? I’m happy to be clarified if that is true or non-sense!
Unfortunately the Scottish weather – which I actually like – turned for the worse with some really strong winds, heavy rain and overnight temperatures dropping to 5C for some hours. I’m now starting to hate Scottish weather now that I turned into veg gardening!
From the pics: (The overall trellis bed pic is on the day of planting. The others are close ups of today.)
You can see that some cotyledons started to die (normal?) but this was accelerated by being outside.
The planting position wasn’t great but I guess it’s the best I could do. I’m short in space… Playing it by the ear. Is this ok or am I overcrowding too much?
Some of the leaves are a bit different with spots etc. There seems to be some cucumber starts but these are really not evolving. Guess that’s normal under this weather and shock of transfer?
Did I make a newbie mistake not to wait for June?
Apologies for another long post and looking forward to your expert opinion! Will appreciate dearly any advice to make them thrive rather than die on me after all this work of caring for them!
FYI, For a bit of history around these attention and focus draining plants you can check my posts!
