Cutting back azalea – Reddit Post

Greetings, am I correct that pruning this should be done once the flowers drop? In Southeast PA.

If so, can I cut this back substantially into a smaller shape without killing it? I love it but it’s gotten huge. If I cut to the lowest level of current flowers will anything bloom next year? Everyone around me has much smaller and controlled azaleas so I’m hoping that’s the case.
