Planting around young camellias
I’m in Melbourne and I’m planting three sasquanas in a bed along a fence that’s in shade for most of winter, and gets morning sun the rest of the year. I know they take a while to grow and I’d like the bed and fence to look not completely bare for a few years, but I don’t want to interfere with the camellia’s growth.
I was thinking of a native violet ground cover and maybe a hardenbergia climber on the fence.
I’m wondering whether these plants are fit for purpose, or if I’m better off with different plants or perhaps climbers in pots – and how much space I need to leave around the camellias to make sure they get the nutrients they need. The bed is about 2m x 5.5m
Would love to hear advice from experienced camellia growers, thank you!
