Should I hand pollinate my passionflowers? – Reddit Post
My passionflowers started to blossom a couple weeks ago and I’m not sure wether I should hand pollinate or let nature do it’s thing
For context, my backyard is full of bees but for some reason they tend to stay on the opposite side of where the passionflower bush is. I think it might be wasps who’ve recently nested right above the bush.(red arrow) Are the wasps predating the bees so the bees avoid the area?
Mind you I do see bees pollinate the bush but it’s usually just one or two and that’s usually in the morning and right before dusk.
As you can see it’s a VERY big bush so I don’t think the bees are pollinating every single flowers. At any given day there are 20-30 flowers open.
But outside of bees, the passionflower bush is full of life and sorta its own ecosystem. I see fruit flies, garden lizards, ladybugs, houseflies, ants, and nymphs. Do any of these creatures pollinate?
I appreciate any advice.
