What’s going on with my acer?

After a 3 month wait, my Japanese maple “Bloodgood” has arrived from Italy. I’ve just planted it on Friday, mostly with the soil from the pot and some acer feed. But the leaves are looking drier and drier by the day, despite there being a bit of rain over the weekend and seeing as its October theres not been any overly sunny or hot weather.

I’m wondering if this is normal autumn behaviour or if something is going on and how to remedy it?
