Question about sweet cherry trees

I rent off a couple who own the house. They want a few fruit trees, but just learned that a sweet cherry tree won’t self-pollinate and produce fruit. Is the only solution to have two trees? If that’s the case, are there smaller trees they can have grown closer together so it doesn’t change their plans too much? Thank you in advance!
